Ministry of Defence approved request to deploy army soldiers to monitor the voting

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is all-set to install CCTV cameras and deploy soldiers of Pakistan Army during the NA-120 by-election scheduled on September 17.

The decision after Ministry of Defence approved the request to deploy army soldiers at the polling stations. However, CCTV cameras will be installed at printing press and polling stations on the request of Pak Army. ECP wrote a letter to Punjab chief secretary asking him to take necessary measures to install secret CCTV cameras at both these venues.



On the other hand, National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) replied to ECP’s letter saying ID cards of 27,000 voters in NA-120 were made before the year 2005 while 2,200 voters have New Overseas ID Card (NICOP). NADRA revealed that biometric data of voters with twelve-year-old ID cards or NICOP is not available.

Ex-PM Nawaz Sharif s daughter, Maryam Nawaz, chaired an important meeting and directed the workers to speed up election campaign for NA-120 PML-N candidate Kulsoom Nawaz. PTI candidate Yasmin Rashid staged a rally in Lahore to invite the voters.
