(Web Desk)- As Independence Day approaches, people across the country are gearing up to portray their patriotism in different ways. And so did famous pop singer Haroon Rashid who went a step further and surprised everyone with a new rendition of his national hit song ‘Dil Say’.

Dil Say was originally released in 2003 by Haroon and the song won acclaim due to its sound and video, which recreated images of Partition to honor the thousands who sacrificed their lives to make this country a reality.

However, this new version of the song features numerous Pakistani greats, including Muniba Mazari , national ambassador for UN Women and one of two Pakistani women named in BBC’s 100 most inspirational women, and Farhan Bogra, who is the lead member of Khumariyan - a popular fusion instrumental group.

Javed Bashir, a regular feature on on Coke Studio and a famous Eastern classical singer of the region, also features in the video.

Haroon commented on the new song in a Facebook post where he stated, “I am very excited to announce the launch of my new song ‘Dil Say Pakistan’ to celebrate 70 years of independence. Featuring Muniba Mazari, Javed Bashir, Farhan Bogra and other stars. Hope you enjoy it.”

The music video of the song was shot in Islamabad by Shariq Khan. The video follows an format in which Aakif Azeem, a survivor of the Army Public School Peshawar, takes a lead role and brings along a ‘hero box’ in which people can look into and find inspiration from various male and female Pakistani role models including the likes of Abdul Sattar Edhi, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Malala Yousafzai.

The video which celebrates not just the heroes but also the diversity of the country has been received well on social media as well ahead of the Pakistan’s Independence Day. The Facebook post which includes the song has received around 17, 000 engagements with users within 24 hours of it being posted by Haroon.
