(Web Desk) - With the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif the PML (N) has put forward the name of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as their candidate for the converted post of the Prime Minister.

One of the most well-known politicians in the country Shahid is the son of the late renowned politician Khaqan Abbasi who was tragically killed in the Ojhri Camp incident of Aril 10,1988.

Despite being a respected politician the 58 year old Shahid has preferred to stay in the background and has rarely come into the spotlight until now. A short look at his life shows that he was born on December 27,1958 in the port city of Karachi from where he got his early education. Afterwards to further his schooling he went to Lawrence Collage in Murree and then on to the University of California to get a degree in Electrical Engineering. Later on he completed his Master’s degree from George Washington University in 1985.

Shahid has worked as an Electrical Engineer and has served in the United States on numerous crucial posts. He has also worked in the Oil & Gas department of Saudi Arabia.

He began participating in Pakistan’s national politics after the death of his father and has since then been elected as a member of the National Assembly six times. He is the owner of Airblue and previously served as Chairman of Pakistan International Airlines from 1997 to 1999. He held the position of Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources from 2013-2017.

Abbasi was jailed for two years during Musharraf’s tenure and was acquitted by the court in 2001.
