Cable car accident: Owner and two operators arrested
Abbottabad DPO told the owner and two operators were arrested from Chakdara
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The two operators and owner of the doli chairlift, that crashed near Murree, have been arrested, according to Abbottabad DPO Anwar ul Haq.
12 persons were killed in the chairlift accident. The doli chairlift was operated by locals in the Charra Pani village and took passengers to Banwari. It met a dangerous accident on Thursday when the cable wire of the doli chairlift broke, causing the transporting vehicle to fall down with high speed.
The chairlift owner named Saeedullah belonged from Lower Dir. He was arrested from Chakdara along with two of the operators. A case was registered against the cable car owner for the illegal business. The district administration has once again directed to ban all illegal chairlifts in the hill station. For this purpose, the admin officials will run a survey with the help of government to account the number of illegal cable cars in the region.
The injured persons were immediately taken to nearby hospitals to restore their medical health. Friends and relatives of the victims protested against the incident yesterday by blocking the road and causing a traffic jam.
It was also revealed through sources that the accident took place due to overcrowding of the doli chairlift.
Chairlift accidents often occur in the mountainous areas of Pakistan, where the lifts are used to cross rivers. Four people drowned when a chairlift broke in Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan in northern Pakistan last month.
