Pakistan Navy extends relief activities to flood-stricken Sri Lanka
Pakistan Navy search and rescue teams, with required technical equipment have reached to the areas.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Pakistan Navy has extended all all-out men and material support in collaboration with Sri Lankan authorities to the flood affected local populace in the aftermath of severe floods which caused havoc and devastation leaving hundreds dead and millions displaced.
According to a press release issued by Director General Public Relations Navy, Pakistan Navy Ship ‘Zulfiquar’ has been promptly dispatched to Colombo which is being served as base camp for Pakistan Navy Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Operations.
Pakistan Navy search and rescue teams, with required technical equipment have reached to the far flung areas of harsh topography, comprising marshes, swamps and unpredictable waterways in severely affected Districts of Horna, Malwana, Kalutara and Raxapana to help the flood stricken populace.

So far, hundreds of people including women, kids and elderly have been evacuated to safer places by Pakistan Navy divers using rescue boats. At least three medical camps have been established in far flung rural districts of Colombo where a large number of flood affected population is being provided medical assistance and medicines especially for flood related maladies. In addition, dry ration, fresh water and edibles are being distributed amongst displaced families. At least 42 drinking wells, contaminated due to flood, have also been decontaminated and fresh drinking water supply was restored by PN teams to the local population.
Sri Lankan local political leadership has highly appreciated the prompt support by Pakistan Navy and expressed gratitude to the people of Pakistan in general and Pakistan Navy in particular for providing a valued assistance at the time of need.
Pakistan Navy Ship Zulfiquar will remain poised for providing Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) as required by Sri Lankan authorities till the normalisatin of situation.
