Asim Hussain will now wait for Sindh High Court's green signal to remove name from ECL

KARACHI (Dunya News) – An Anti-Terrorism Court has allowed Dr Asim Hussain to fly abroad for two weeks and submit Rs 2 million in return.

The special public prosecutor had expressed concerns over the plea and stated that Dr Asim would never return if allowed to fly abroad at which he responded that the government could take Zia ud Din Hospital into custody if he didn’t return.

Dr Asim Hussain is currently under the trial for multi-billion rupee corruption cases and medical treatment of terrorists. However, he cannot leave Pakistan unless Sindh High Court (SHC) gives orders to remove his name from Exit Control List (ECL) and issue visa.

PPP Co-chairman Asif Zardari s close aid has submitted a petition to the SHC stating that a medical board had recommended him to take spinal surgery from abroad. The decision on his petition will be given by SHC in the coming days.

Dr Asim spent 19 months in detention before he was released on March 31, this year, from the sub-jail at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. He was bailed out in two corruption reference filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) claiming his involvement in corrupt practices.
