CM Khattak signs summary to hold judicial inquiry into Mardan student's lynching
The authorities have forwarded the summary to Peshawar High Court (PHC).
MARDAN (Dunya News / AFP) – Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (CM) Pervez Khattak on Saturday signed a summary to hold judicial inquiry into lynching case of Abdul Wali Khan University student, Mashal Khan.
The authorities have forwarded the summary to Peshawar High Court (PHC) after which an investigation committee has been formed whereas the officers have also presented eight out of twenty suspects in the court.
On the other hand, the university has issued a notification, stating that three students including victim Mashal Khan were barred from entering the campus on the day of mishap.
The administration has claimed that a probe was called on as Khan and two friends had a debate with other students earlier Thursday about his religious views which became so heated that teachers had to lock him in a room for his safety.
"But the enraged students grew to a mob and they attacked the room," the source said.
On April 12, hundreds of students beat to death a classmate known for his liberal views at Abdul Khan Wali Khan University on Thursday, police and witnesses said.
Mashal Khan was stripped, beaten, shot, and thrown from the second floor of his hostel, sources at the university said.
"The student has been brutally murdered by his fellow students," Niaz Saeed, a senior police official said.
"He was badly tortured after being shot at a close range... He was beaten with sticks, bricks and hands," Saeed said, adding that hundreds of people had been involved in the attack.
However, a police source told that students had recently complained to university authorities about Khan’s alleged views remarks.
