Panama Leaks case: Trying to understand what truth is, says SC
SC asked for script of Maryam Nawaz's interview in which she claimed to have no property abroad.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - During the hearing of Panama Leaks case today (Wednesday), Supreme Court (SC) has sought script of Maryam Nawaz’s television interview which she gave in 2012.
A five-member larger bench headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa resumed the hearing. Other judges in the bench include Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan.
Lawyer Shahid Hamid told the court that as per Trust Deed, Hussain Nawaz made Maryam Nawaz trusty of Nescol and Nelson companies for the distribution of property over which Justice Ijaz expressed resentment and said that there is no uniformity in your written reply.
He said PM’s daughter assured that Hussain Nawaz is not NTN holder.
Justice Khosa asked for script of Maryam Nawaz’s interview in which she claimed to have no property abroad.
He said that Maryam Nawaz signed Trust Deed in 2006 then how can she said that she is not having any possessions abroad.
Giving remarks on Maryam Nawaz’s signatures, Justice Ejaz Afzal said that an expert can comment on this issue as judges are not science masters.
Justice Gulzar said apparently, there is a difference in the signatures. Justice Khosa said that Maryam Nawaz’s signature is also present on her personal information form issued by International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.
Meanwhile, the counsel said he is not accusing the petitioners of forgery but submitting unverfied documents is a reckless disregard to the court.
In his remarks, Justice Ejaz Afzal said when documents are relied upon by a party, it is its duty to prove the custody of them as well.
He said the stories filed by the German media and the BBC carry nothing new.
Shahid Hamid will continue his arguments tomorrow.
Earlier, SC also ordered to submit comprehensive details of property distribution after the death of Mian Sharif.
Maryam Nawaz’s counsel Shahid Hamid told the court that Nawaz Sharif had written on nomination form that he lives in his mother’s house.
Justice Khosa asked that Captain Safdar didn’t submit tax return in 2011 on which the lawyer said that Rs28,000 fine is there for such people. He continued that Captain Safdar paid tax from his salary.
Justice Khosa remarked that Maryam Nawaz is being accused of concealing assets.
Counsel Shahid Hamid said here, the question is not of constitutional disqualification.
