Meds' hiked prices: NAB arrests Health Ministry official among eight

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has apprehended Secretary of Drug Committee, Dr Mohammad Ali among seven directors of pharmaceutical companies on Tuesday for procuring ‘commission’ that led to hiked prices of medicines.

Eight suspects have been accused by NAB of reaching an illegal settlement with pharmaceutical companies to pocket money.

According to NAB’s prosecutor Sardar Muzaffar, the racket could not have functioned without leaning on Health Ministry and that the companies allegedly pocketed over Rs 1 billion.

The arrests were made in premises of a local court where all the eight suspects were presented. However, bail pleas of all the eight alleged criminals were turned down.
