LAHORE (Dunya News) – A child and a cardiac patient died on Thursday in Mayo hospital over not receiving timely treatment as the emergency ward has been locked in the aftermath of doctors’ protest.

The child has been identified as Sana and the other patient as Sadiq.

Punjab government while taking action against the protesters has suspended 15 doctors and five nurses whereas 30 nurses have been directed to report to Primary Health Care Department.

The protest of Young Doctors Association (YDA) seeking the restoration of two doctors and a nurse has entered third day.

The doctors and nurse were dismissed from duty for torturing a patient and his relatives on October 25.

The doctors after taking out a rally from the hospital have staged a sit-in on Mall Road at Club Chowk.

The protesters spent the last night under open sky and have refused to call of their protest until the fulfillment of their demands.

The traffic flow has been badly affected by the protest as long queues of vehicles were present all around with the public facing immense problems.

An ambulance also got stuck in the traffic and was able to make its way out after hectic delay.

While talking to Dunya News, Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Khwaja Salman Rafique said that the government has no reservations with young nurses and doctors.

“The doctors were suspended after being found guilty however the protesters have now become aggressive and insensitive.”

Meanwhile, hospital authorities say that they are trying hard to control the situation but the shortage of doctors is causing difficulties.

“Our senior professors, associate professors, registrars, senior registrars and Medical Officers (MO) have begun their work in the emergency and it is working peacefully,” said Mayo hospital’s director emergency Dr Javed Munir.

On the other hand, a young doctor tortured a security guard when he prohibited him placing his vehicle in ‘No Parking’ area.

The guard and his companions protested against the ruthless behaviour of the young doctor.
