Commission of Inquiry Act 2016 bill presented in NA
The inquiry commission shall have the authority to summon any individual, attain documents
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – In order to deal with the investigation of the Panama Leaks issue, the government introduced the Commission of Inquiry Act 2016 bill in the National Assembly (NA) on Friday, reported Dunya News.
A similar legislation introduced in 1956 shall be nullified once Pakistan Commission of Inquiry Act 2016 comes into effect. The act shall have complete criminal and civil authority for the investigation of the Panama Leaks issue.
The inquiry commission shall have the authority to summon any individual and attain documents whereas any official of the commission may enter into any building and confiscate records for the investigation.
The authority of the commission shall be equivalent to that of the Supreme Court (SC) as it shall be led by a judge of the country’s top-most court. The document related to the bill revealed that the government shall also provide the time frame regarding the investigation of the issue whereas the time period can be increase upon the request of the commission’s head.
The commission shall dissolve once the investigation of the issue gets completed, as mentioned in one of the acts of the bill.
