APML social media coordinator 'abducted' in Karachi

Musharraf vowed to return to Pakistan after needed medical treatment

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Social Media Coordinator of former dictator Pervez Musharraf’s All Pakistan Muslim League party was allegedly kidnapped yesterday while armed men searched his house and looted, reported Monday.

Unidentified armed men forcefully entered Mehndi Hassan’s residence and held the family hostage.

According to Hassan’s brother named Raheel, some 10 to 15 men who rode four police vehicles bearing no number plates and three private vehicles barged into the house and besides abducting his brother took away Rs 0.2 million cash, a computer, eight mobile phones and jewelry.

A written plea for registration of a case has been filed in the local police station, he said adding that whereabouts of his brother are still unknown.

The alleged abduction has surfaced when Karachi’s political situation is in turmoil after Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s chief was detached with the party that he founded decades ago and his posters were torn.

Over 20 offices of the political party that were built illegally have been demolished so far.

The crackdown was initiated after Altaf Hussain’s anti-Pakistan speech.

Alleged abduction of the party social media coordinator has come in when Musharraf is not in the country. Supreme Court had allowed him to travel abroad for medical treatment while he is being tried in case regarding imposition of emergency in 2007 on November 3.

During an interview with a private channel, Musharraf vowed that he would come back to Pakistan after required treatment.
