Multiple crises beset Faisalabad Textile Industry; 4,500 units shut
Faisalabad Textile Industry is beset by multiple crises including continued lengthy gas and power loadshedding, yarn shortage and not-so-conducive market situation rendering thousand jobless. Around 30 percent industry is already closed due to crises while some 450 industries got paralyzed owing to the prolonged gas loadshedding. Shortage of yarn also added to the miseries of already suffering textile industry. The industrialist warned the government of launching a civil disobedience movement if their grievances are not met. On the other hand, over 40 percent powerlooms have been closed down rendering 40,000 labourers jobless. The ongoing protests across the city has not helped improve the worsening situation. All the textile units have remained shut on Thursday for the third consecutive day owing to suspension of gas supply to the industrial areas in Faisalabad.The input cost in Punjab is touching the sky and the prices of products are fast becoming uncompetitive in country and in international market, they said adding that unfair and wrong strategy of the concerned government departments is earning a bad name for the government.
