PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – At least 645 persons have been booked until today in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s capital for power theft as Peshawar Electric Supply Company carries on with the crackdown, reported Saturday.

The power supply department had established dedicated stations in Peshawar, Charsadda and Bannu to take action against locals guilty of power theft.

The department has also identified the areas with the highest figures of power losses.

In 2013, around 151 cases were lodged for power theft, in 2014 the number rose to 1,178 while in 2015 it was 3,128. According to Pesco authorities, Lala subdivision is the worst when it comes to power theft and at least 73 First Information Reports have been filed in the area within the last six months.

The officials further said that the entire province is facing power outages on basis of ‘submit dues to get power supply’ policy. Areas with higher recovery rate are seeing less number of outage hours.

In Peshawar, according to the department, areas including Landi Arbab, Regi, Mathra, Deh Bahadur, Mashogagar, Budhber and Dalazak Road in Pakha Ghulam have the lowest recoveries which ends up burdening even those who pay their dues.
