Army Chief reaches Quetta on day-long visit

General Sharif paid a visit to Armed Forces Institute of Ophthalmology on Wednesday

QUETTA (Dunya News) – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has reached Balochistan’s capital Thursday to visit the Southern Command Headquarters where he will be briefed about security situation.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Army Chief will deliver an address in the Staff College as well.

He is about to review the operational and security situation of Southern Command a day after his meeting with United States Ambassador David Hale during which he declared drone strikes in Pakistan detrimental to Pak-US relations.

The meeting came in after US drone strike eliminated Afghanistan Taliban chief Mullah Akhtar Mansoor in Nushki of Balochistan on Saturday.

The government has strongly reacted to the first attack by United States in Balochistan province. Condemnation by Prime Minister and Interior Minister was followed by Army Chiefs sitting with David Hale.

Earlier on Wednesday, General Sharif paid a visit to Armed Forces Institute of Ophthalmology (AFIO) and met with the intrepid soldiers who lost their eyesight during Operation Zarb-e-Azb.

According to the statistics, as many as 179 soldiers have lost complete or partial eyesight in improvised explosive devices (IED) blasts in fight against terror.
