4th Sindh Local Govt (amendment) Bill 2013 passed in Sindh Assembly
Reserved seats for women have increased from 22% to 33% after approval of the Bill
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Sindh Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed the Fourth Sindh Local Government (amendment) Bill 2013, reported Dunya News.
The Bill was introduced on the floor of the house by Provincial Minister Nisar Khuhro. Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) backed the Bill after which it was approved.
Reserved seats for women have increased from 22% to 33% after the approval of the Bill whereas seats for youngsters, labourers and minorities have also been increased.
Sindh Assembly’s session was led by Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly Shehla Raza. Discussion in regards to the quarterly report of the Budget 2015/2016 was also carried out during the session.
Nisar Khuhro also introduced amendment in regards to restoration of article 18-A of the Bill upon the orders of the Supreme Court. However, the opposition parties resented upon not having the mentioned article in documented form in order to go through it prior to having discussion.
Deputy Speaker postponed the discussion regarding the amendment and adjourned the Assembly’s session till Wednesday morning.
