Karachi: Aga Khan University's student commits suicide
The university administration has refused to give out details in the matter
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Another student of a private university has committed suicide in Sindh’s capital taking the number to two in a month, Dunya News reported Thursday.
Aga Khan University’s Wasim Baig hanged himself by a ceiling fan.
The university administration has refused to give out details in the matter. Reportedly, Baig was a second year student at nursing department, studying under scholarship.
The late student who hailed from Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) committed suicide on Wednesday. Late Baig’s body was moved back to native town.
Earlier in the month, Abdul Basit self-immolated after he was disallowed appearance in exam due to late arrival.
Basit was denied permission to attempt annual Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) examination as he had appeared late at the centre.
The dejected student was shifted to the Civil Hospital where he succumbed to the burns while under treatment.
According to the family, Basit’s car had broken down on his way to the exam centre. Late student’s friends held a teacher responsible for the incident as he allegedly told Basit he would get permission ‘f he sets himself on fire.’
Principal of the institution stated that Basit had arrived at least half an hour late for the exam.
The bereaved family registered a case in Taimuria Police Station against Karachi Medical and Dental College and a private university.
Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad sought explanation from the university over final year student’s death.
