KARACHI (Dunya News) – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) workers clashed Saturday as emotions ran high before NA-245 by-elections. Several party workers were injured during the confrontation. Worker groups of both parties attacked one another at Karachi’s Five-star Chowrangi area. Both parties have hurled accusations against one another and claimed that their workers were injured during the brawl.

According to the details, the enraged workers had a go at one another with sticks and hurled stones at each other. Windows of several cars were also shattered during the ruckus.

MQM‘s leader Rehan Hashmi has stated that party workers arriving for the rally were attacked by PTI workers. Hashmi backed his claim saying that the video of brawl was available on social media. He added that MQM wants the by-elections to be conducted peacefully.

Meanwhile PTI has denied MQM claims saying that it was in fact MQM workers who attacked their party’s cavalcade. The party added that 2 of its workers were injured in the clash.

PTI chairman Imran Khan severely criticized MQM in his tweet on social media website Twitter. He stated that extremists had attacked PTI’s office and opened fire on the workers.

Khan stated that PTI will respond to these provocations, adding that Rangers and Pak Army personnel be deployed during the by-elections.
