CJ hails Parliament for not approving of Nov 3 acts

Dunya News

Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Wednesday hailed the Parliament for being upright and having all the characteristics like legislative assemblies of any other country. A 17-member bench under the head of Chief Justice Iftikhar Chuadhry was hearing identical petitions against some clauses of 18th amendment. We respect the Parliament, which comprised sane people for they have not approved of the November 3rd acts, the CJ observed. Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq read the letter by Raza Rabbani in the court, which stated that since the court has not summoned him, he decided, after consultation with friends, not to appear before the court. Upon this, the CJ remarked that he was made a party in the case, but if he is not willing he may not come to court. Advocate Akram Sheikh argued that, What is the need of judicial review when the court cannot scrap any of the amendment? He said the constitutional committee did not feel the need to consult the Chief Justice on Article 175-A.
