4-country session resolves to establish durable peace in Afghanistan

Aziz said the first step is to determine the roadmap of the reconciliation process

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A four-country session for establishment of peace in Afghanistan took place in Islamabad on Monday in which the participants emphasized the importance of dialogue for durable peace in the country, Dunya News reported.

According to details, the four country alliance comprising Pakistan, Afghanistan, United States and China emphasized the need to rest the dialogue process between the Afghan government and Taliban.

Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said the purpose of the meeting was to bring Taliban on negotiations table.

In the declaration after the meeting, it was stated that eliminating extremism is necessary for creating peace in Afghanistan. It said that the participants of the meeting decided to try to create favourable environment for the dialogue.

As per the declaration, the Afghanistan leadership has agreed to continue the peace process. The 4-country committee will meet in Kabul on January 18 for its next session.

Addressing the meeting, Aziz said the first and the most important process is to determine the roadmap of the reconciliation process.

He said the purpose of the session is to forward the negotiation process between the government and Taliban.

The Adviser said Pakistan is desirous of durable peace in Afghanistan, adding that it is important also to review the opportunities and obstacles in the reconciliation process.
