Interior Ministry turns Pakistani deportee back to US
The US police brought Shahid today to Pakistan on TK-740 flight
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News/Reuters) – Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Interior Ministry on Wednesday have sent Pakistani citizen deported from United States (US) back from the Benazir International Airport.
The Interior Ministry has sought US $5,000 fine from Turkish airlines for transporting Syed Shahid Ali, hailing from Lahore without required documentation and government’s permission.
The US police brought Shahid today to Pakistan on TK-740 flight.
The Interior Ministry told the US authorities that Pakistan could not accept any citizen until proper channel is not used for deportation.
Earlier in November 2015, as many as 106 Pakistani illegal immigrants belonging to different areas including Gujrat, Gujranwala and Mandi Bahauddin were arrested by the FIA after they were deported by Greece.
The arrests were made at the Islamabad airport.
On December 3 the same year, Pakistan had refused to allow about 30 migrants deported from Greece to get off the plane in Islamabad. The refusal had come a week after talks with the European Union (EU) to settle a dispute over forced repatriations.
The charter plane later took off with the rejected returnees still aboard, after 19 others whom Pakistan deemed legitimate deportees were allowed to disembark.
A top EU official had said that Pakistan would stick to an agreement to take back citizens deported from mainland Europe, days after Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan said Islamabad was suspending a repatriation deal.
Last year, about 21,000 Pakistanis who were in Europe without permission were ordered to return home. An estimated 50,000 Pakistanis travel legally to Europe for work each year.
