Chinese PM accepts Nawaz Sharif's invitation to visit Pakistan

PM Nawaz and his Chinese counterpart held a meeting on the sidelines of SCO summit.

SHANGHAI (Web Desk) - Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang on the sideline of the SCO summit on Saturday.

Both leaders discussed bilateral relations and matters relating to mutual interest.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said inclusion of Chinese currency Yuan in world economic system is a milestone and it is the recognition of the economic progress and achievements of China by the world community.

He also congratulated the Chinese Premier for conducting successful 14th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit.

Meanwhile, the Chinese premier accepted Nawaz Sharif‘s invitation to visit Pakistan next year. 

Earlier today, while addressing the 14th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Zhengzhou, PM Nawaz said that terrorism is the most serious issue of the present day and the international powers need to fight the extremist approach.

He said that international powers could restore peace in the world by cooperating. He said that sovereignty of the states and internal stability have threats in the region.

Referring to the expansion of the SCO, he pointed out that in UFA Summit, Pakistan and India were accepted in principle as the permament members of the organization. He said Pakistan has made considerable progress to complete its internal processes and to accede to the relevant treaties of the SCO.

He said Pakistan enjoys deep-rooted economic, trade and cultural relations with the members of the SCO.

Addressing the moot, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said the SCO countries will have to work out a comprehensive security policy. He said the SCO should also focus on improving infrastructure and development of human resource.

He proposed that the SCO also establish a bank for promotion of trade activities within the member countries.


WHAT IS SCO?


SCO is an important organization founded in Shanghai in 2001. Its member-states include China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Pakistan was invited to become full member of the SCO in Heads of State Summit in Ufa July 2015.

Pakistan is completing relevant procedures to become full member of the SCO and is coordinating efforts with the SCO Secretariat and the SCO s founding member countries in that regard. As an Observer State of the SCO, Pakistan has been making substantive contribution to regional peace, security and development.
