Pakistan needs massive aid from intl community : Zardari
President Asif Ali Zardari said on Tuesday that the Pakistan government needed massive assistance from international community to successfully overcome the challenge to cater to needs of population rendered homeless. He was talking to Commander of the United States Central Command General James Mattis at the President House. President Zardari said one of the great challenges, besides rehabilitation and reconstruction, was to preclude and neutralize extremist elements taking advantage of the prevailing situation. Spokesperson to the President Farhatullah Babar said that the President appreciated the US financial and logistics support and the humanitarian aid to the flood affected victims. General James Mattis expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of nearly 1500 precious lives due to the unprecedented devastating floods that have rendered a huge number of people homeless and caused colossal infrastructural damages. He said the government and people of the United States stood besides Pakistani people and its government at this critical hour of need and would continue to provide all possible assistance to the people in distress. General James reiterated long term commitment to strategic partnership with Pakistan including creating economic opportunities for the people of Pakistan.
