Ahsan Iqbal says China is providing cheap loans to Pakistan on 1.3% interest under CPEC agreement

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Federal Minister for Planning and Development Chaudhry Ahsan Iqbal has on Thursday said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) enjoys the support from all the parties in Pakistan. He told that China is providing cheap loans to Pakistan on 1.3% interest rate under CPEC agreement, reported Dunya News.

Addressing a seminar about CPEC in Islamabad, Ahsan Iqbal said that out of the 46bn USD projects attributed to the CPEC, projects worth USD 40bn are related to energy sector. He added that the corridor enjoys support from all the parties.

Federal Minister said that no changes have been made to the route of the CPEC and all the provinces will benefit from it. He said that this corridor will introduce Pak-China friendship to new horizons and will help enhance Pakistan’s position in the region.

Earlier, it had been feared that CPEC route might be altered in order to avoid areas that are prone to earthquake. However, the fears were rejected by the government.

Federal Broadcast and Information Minister Pervez Rashid said that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) path will not be altered due to fears of natural calamities. He warned that delays may occur if heavy rain and snows commence from November 1 which will hamper the process.
