ECP to suspend membership of more than 500 MPs for not submitting asset details

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Election Commission of Pakistan is expected to issue a notification today (Thursday) regarding suspension of membership of more than five hundred parliamentarians who have failed to submit details of their assets.

ECP has only received the asset details of only 540 out of 1174 parliamentarians.

Members of the Senate, National Assembly and Provincial Assemblies of the Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Puktunkhuwa and Balochistan were required to submit their asset details in the Election Commission Secretariat under Section 42A of the Representation of the People Act, 1976 and Section 25A of the Senate (Election) Act, 1975.

All the members were directed to submit yearly statements of assets and liabilities of their own, their spouses and dependents by 30th September.

The ECP will notify the names of the members who failed to file their statements today (Thursday) and will issue an order that such member shall cease to function till submission of their statement.
