Operation against encroachment, Gulistan-e-Johar becomes battleground

KARACHI: (Dunya News) – Gulistan-e-Johar’s area Chishti Nagar became a battleground on Thursday when Karachi Development Authority (KDA) team arrived there for operation against encroachment in the area. Enraged at the operations, people started pelting stones at the team and police finally had to come in and disperse the crowd with the help of aerial firing and baton-charge, reported Dunya News.
According to details, KDA team started the operation against encroachment but young boys and women blocked their way by pelting stones at them. To disperse the enraged mob, police started aerial firing. KDA team demolished several houses in the operation with the help of the machinery.
Meanwhile, police arrested several people who tried to resist the operation. Residents of the area said that KDA provided them no notice before demolishing their houses. However, KDA officials denied the claim, saying that several notices had been issued before finally carrying out the operation.
