PM visits Chachran Sharif, expresses grief over lives lost to floods

As many as 150 schools have been destroyed by floods in Layyah

RAHIM YAR KHAN (Dunya News) – Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif on Friday has paid a visit to Chachran Sharif and expressed grief over the lives lost in different flood-related incidents.

While addressing the affected families, the PM said that the government stands with the flood-affectees. He issued directives to the authorities concerned to have more boats come in for people s safety.

Separately, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Butto Zardari has called a key meeting to discuss floods in Sindh.

As of today, another several villages in southern Punjab and Sindh have been washed away by floods while at least 70 villages in Ghotki have lost land connections to other parts.

Hundreds of localities have been engulfed by floods in Rajanpur and Mianwali after levees were breached. Thousands of affected locals are shifting families to safer places using private boats.

In Layyah, as many as 150 schools have been destroyed by floods. At least two lac people in Layyah are affected as 382 villages and small towns have been washed away.

A dyke in Muhammad Sharif Wali area in Mianwali was breached resultantly the dozens of villages were inundated.

However, the Pakistan Army and Rescue 1122 are continuing relief and rescue operations in different affected areas.
