On July 13, 1931, more than 20 young men embraced martyrdom by the firing of Dogra Army.
(Web Desk) - Kashmiris in occupied Kashmir and around the globe are observing Youm-e-Shuhda Kashmir (Martyrs Day) today (Monday) to pay tribute to the 22 people killed who were killed by firing of Dogra army while protesting against autocratic rule on July 13, 1931, Dunya News reported.
Their sacrifice initiated a struggle to gain freedom and to continue this process Kashmiris as a renewed commitment commemorates Youm-e-Shuhda Kashmir (Martyrs Day) every year on July 13.
During the past eight decades, Kashmiris have sacrificed more than 1 lac lives to achieve the right to self-determination.
In occupied Kashmir, the authorities have imposed curfew like situation and strict restrictions whereas heavy Indian Police and Central Reserve Police Fore (CRPF) personnel in all the old city parts of Srinagar have been deployed.
Indian forces are deployed in strength and people have been forced to remain indoors in the civil lines in Srinagar to thwart a march from Jamia Masjid to Naqshband Sahib in Srinagar. Call for the march was jointly given by Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.
The authorities imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar and arrested dozens of youth in different areas of the city to stop any protests.
Hurriyet leaders have also been taken into custody or detained at their houses.
“Restrictions have been imposed in six areas of Rainawari, Khanyar, Nowhatta, M.R. Gunj, Safa Kadal and Maisuma today (Monday),” a senior police officer told media men.
“We are not being allowed to move out of our houses since morning,” residents of Kawdara and Nowhatta told media men.
Hurriyet leaders, Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik have called for a joint programme on the Martyrs’ Graveyard at Naqshband Sahib; however, they have been placed under house arrest more than twelve hours earlier.
