No extra ballot papers printed in 2013 general elections, claims ex-Punjab CEC
The judicial commission has adjourned proceedings till Tuesday.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Former chief election commissioner of Punjab Mehboob Anwar on Monday admitted that no additional ballot papers were printed in 2013 general elections. All election material was finalized and dispatched in army’s presence on the demand of returning officers.
A three-member judicial commission headed by Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk heard a case pertaining to alleged rigging in 2013 polls.
Responding to questions by PML-N lawyer Shahid Hamid, former Punjab election commissioner Mehboob Anwar said no extra ballot papers were printed for Punjab in 2013 general elections.
Ballot papers and other election material were finalized on the returning officers’ demand. Ballot papers were printed in army’s presence and all the material was shifted to the polling stations in Punjab under the supervision of Pak Army.
He remarked that no complaint regarding misconduct was received against any returning office and other staff members who assisted them also belonged to the judiciary.
On question by ECP lawyer Salman Akram Raja, Anwar clarified that returning officer or the EC representative can directly obtain election material from the printing press.
Meanwhile, the commission adjourned the proceedings till Tuesday.
