PEMRA places ban on all programs against security, dignity of country

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) -- Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) issued a show cause notice to 14 news channels after they showed Altaf Hussain’s controversial speech. PEMRA has directed to broadcast live programs with help of a delay device. All transmissions which are against judiciary, Pakistan Army and various law enforcing agencies have been banned, reported Dunya News.
Ministry of Information had sent PEMRA a letter after media showed live transmission of Altaf Hussain’s hate inciting speech.
Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) issued show-cause notices to 14 channels over broadcasting hate speech as per Ministry of Information’s letter.
The letter directed TV channels to use a delay device during live telecast of proceedings.
PEMRA stated that action would be taken against TV channels that did not comply with terms in the letter.
PEMRA has also issued a directive according to article 27 of the PEMRA act, which has placed a blanket ban against all transmissions which are against judiciary, Pakistan Army and various law enforcing agencies.
According to the directive no interviews or hate inciting speech can be aired by any news channel.
