The National Northern Line tripped off due to which the power supply went down, says spokesperson

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The National Power Control Centre (NPCC) on Friday encountered a functional problem due to which the power supply of several cities of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) provinces has been cut off.

Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali said that the problem is being taken care of and the power supply would be resumed within four to five hours.

According to the sources, due to a functional problem, the power supply from Tarbela and Mangla Power Houses has been cut off.

The areas devoid of the supply include, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Islamabad, Gujrat, Attock, Chakwal, Rawalpindi, Jehlum and several others.

Reportedly, the immense demand as compared to the production of electricity caused the breakdown.

In contrast to the load on the electricity power houses, the houses working on the furnace oil have been shut down.

Tarbela and Ghazi Barotha power houses experienced a heavy load of electricity due to which the transmission line tripped off.

However, electricity grids of some posh areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi were saved from tripping off.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Water and Power said that the transmission went off due to the tripping off of the National Northern Line and that the repairing process has been started.

Reportedly, the power supply was not cut off in the southern areas of the country.

However, the power supply has not been resumed for past several hours. Flight operations at the Lahore Airport have been aborted.

Reportedly, the patients in hospitals are facing severe problems due to electricity outage.

Traffic has been jammed on various roads in Lahore due to power cut of the traffic signals.
