20 of 36 KP girls recovered from Karachi leave for Peshawar
The girls would be taken to Bajaur where they would be united with their parents.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Twenty of the 36 KP girls recovered from various areas of Karachi have left for Peshawar through a private airline on Saturday.
On arrival at Peshawar airport, the girls would be taken to Bajaur where they would be united with their parents.
Assistant political agent and others accompanied the girls while they left Karachi for Peshawar. None of the ministers or any prominent politicians were present as the KP girls departed whereas two police mobiles were arranged for the security.
Police on a tip-off, conducted raid at a house in Liaquatabad area and recovered 33 minor girls. All the girls, aged between 8 and 10, were brought to Karachi from Bajaur Agency.
According to the police officer, the girls could only speak Pashto and cannot speak Urdu.
Reportedly, the girls were under the supervision of a female teacher named Hameeda in a Madrassa.
Police had also taken two women into custody from the house for interrogation.
Hameeda’s son told the police that the owner of the house, Ayub borrowed Rs 2 lacs from his mother and failed to pay it back as promised. So she handed over 33 female students to the debtor stating that he is responsible for their expenses now if he cannot pay her debt.
It is not yet clear why the girls were brought to Karachi and who brought them.
However, one of the two women told the police that the girls were being kept at her house to pay off a debt.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Rauf Siddiqui immediately reached the site and offered breakfast to all the girls.
While tallking to the media in Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Central Office, he said that a 4-member committee has been formed to probe the matter.
However, the police said that a case could not be registered regarding this as this is neither an issue of kidnapping nor repression.
Families of the female students reached to fetch them after this news broke.
Some of the girls were still waiting for their families whereas Managing Director of Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal (PBM) Zamurd Khan has announced to take responsibility of the girls.
In the National Assembly session, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) member Nabeel Qabol urged the authorities concerned to investigate the matter to find out how these girls were transported to Karachi from KPK and that whether they were being trained as suicide bombers or not.
Reportedly, the police would hand them over to their families after their medical check-up.
