NAWABSHAH (Dunya News) – Hundreds of bags containing blood donated by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) workers and supporters on the occasion of Benazir Bhutto’s birthday were found buried near Nawabshah. In-charge Thalassemia Center Ghulam Ali Channa said the 1200 blood bags were disposed off wasted because they did not pass the screening and contained various viruses, Dunya News reported.
Local recovered some 15 large bags from the area upon digging and discovered those 15 bags contained some 1200 blood bags. The blood bags contained stickers of Benazir Bhutto birthday blood donation theme.
In-charge Thalassemia Center said that 1600 donations were received from Nawabshah, 600 from Sanghar and 850 from Noshehro Feroz. He said that it was discovered after the screening that around 1200 bags contained Hepatitis B, C, and Malaria among other viruses and that the blood cannot be given to any other patient.
He said this is the reason the contaminated blood bags were isolated and disposed off as per the medical protocol.
He said the bags were disposed off like that instead of throwing away in the dustbins to avoid communication of diseases.
He said that Nawabshah Thalassemia Center is equipped with the system to store blood, adding that the rumors about wasting blood have no basis.
