LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said on Saturday that Pakistan’s democracy is a form of monarchy where friends and relatives are being awarded, Dunya News reported.
Imran Khan said in a Twitter post that Pakistan’s political elite never takes merit as criteria, adding that the considerable criteria instead is nepotism and to award personal relations and friendships.
“Democracy remains quasi-monarchical in nature in Pak with Parl seats & public offices handed down from father 2 children/siblings/relatives” he tweeted on Saturday.
“Merit is never a criteria with r trad political elite - instead nepotism reigns 2 preserve/further family power, kinship ties, friendships.”
Imran Khan also asked why Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif takes only Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif on official foreign trips, adding that this creates a sense of deprivation among other provinces.
“Question is why the PM only take CM Punjab with him on official foreign visits? This only adds to sense of deprivation of other provinces.”
Imran Khan’s PTI emerged as second largest political party in terms of number of votes; yet the party didn’t clean-sweep as opposed to its expectations. Imran Khan has termed a number of factors including alleged rigging for the outcome of general elections that took place on May 11 last year.
Khan has repeatedly highlighted reports of ‘35 punctures’ allegedly inflicted by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi, reiterating his claim that Pakistan Muslim League (PMLN) influenced interim government aided the alleged rigging in general elections.
Upon Najam Sethi’s reappointment as PCB chairman, Imran Khan claimed Sethi is being rewarded for his ‘puncture service’.
