Karachi: Police fire water cannon, teargas on protesting teachers
The demonstrators resisted water cannon but were disbursed upon teargas shelling.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Teachers demonstrating for rights were given an in-depth wash by police using water cannon here on Wednesday. Police also used teargas that reportedly injured 2 women; a total of 40 demonstrators were arrested. Teachers have announced boycott of educational activities at colleges across Sindh tomorrow (Thursday).
Teachers belonging to Sindh Professor and Lectures Association held a peaceful demonstration and staged a sit-in at Sindh Secretariat to put forward their demands regarding promotions and time scale.
The demonstrators included four women who kept protesting while sitting by the road. No government representative arrived to negotiate. Police personnel kept urging the demonstrators to end the protest and clear the area and fired water cannons and teargas upon resistance.

Over 40 teachers were arrested following which, the teachers union has announced a province-wide boycott of educational activities across Sindh.
Teachers maintained that they are forced to take the matter to streets because of government’s injustices and that the Sindh government proved to be non-democratic by attacking the protestors.
