Nationwide protests against Rawalpindi tragedy
Nationwide protests against Rawalpindi incident were held across the country that ended peacefully.
LAHORE (Dunya News/ Web Desk) - Nationwide protest rallies against November 15 tragic incident in Rawalpindi were held across the country on the call of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, Wafaqul Madaris Al Arabia and other religious parties.
Wafaqul Madaris Al Arabia held protest rally in Karachi against Rawalpindi incident. The activists shouted slogans and later dispersed peacefully.
Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat also held a protest demonstration near Guru Mandar in Karachi after Juma prayer. Several big and small processions from different areas of the city joined the rally at Guru Mandar. The participants were carrying party flags and shouted slogans. The protesters also offered their Asr prayer at the site of the rally.
Leaders of different religious parties including Maulana Taj Muhammad Hanfi of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, Maulana Abdul Haye of Almi Majlis Khatm-e Nabuat and others addressed the rally and demanded of the government to arrange a dialogue between both the groups before launching investigation into the incident take measures to normalise the situation.
Activists of different political parties also protested against the Rawalpindi tragedy in outside Lahore Press Club after Juma prayer. The participants were carrying banners and placards and shouted slogans. The protesters staged sit-in near Shimla Pahari and offered Asr prayer on the road. The speakers of the rally demanded of the government to launch impartial probe into the incident. Later the protester dispersed peacefully.
The workers of different political parties took out a protest rally from Lal Masjid and arrived at Islamabad Press Club where they staged a sit-in. The participants demanded action against the culprits of Rawalpindi incident. They offered Asr prayer and dispersed peacefully.
In Quetta, Ahle Sunnat Waljamat also staged a protest rally headed by Ramzan Mengal from Imdad Chowk to Quetta Press Club. The protesters shouted slogans, demanded action against culprits of Pindi incident. They also staged sit-in and later dispersed peacefully after the speeches of the leaders.
In Peshawar, the processions of religious parties reached Namak Mandi and took out a protest rally to Soekarno Chowk. The protesters staged a sit-in at Soekarno Chowk and later dispersed peacefully.
Ahle Sunnat Waljamat also took out a protest rally and held demonstration at Chowk Ghanta Ghar in Faisalabad. The protesters were carrying banners and placard demanding stern action against the accused. The speakers demanded immediate arrest of the accused and stern action against them.
In Multan, Ahle Sunnat Waljamat also held protest rally at Hazoori Bagh Road. The protesters blocked the road and shouted slogans while the nearby shops remained closed.
Earlier, security had been tightened across the country ahead of expected protests against the Rawalpindi incident.
The Punjab government had decided to deploy 10,000 police officials in Lahore due to security concerns in the city.
Ban on pillion riding and gathering of more than five people has also been banned in Faisalabad on Friday while any processions and gatherings have also been prohibited in several cities.
Army had been put on high alert while police and military troops will also hold a joint flag march.
Extra police force from Lodhran, Khanewal and Vehari has been called in Multan to avert any untoward situation in the city while army troops have been deployed at Chowk Shaheedan and Shah Gardez.
Section 144 had been imposed in Bahawalnagar and Chishtian while security of imambargahs and other religious seminaries had been increased.
