No evidence against Musharraf in Lal Masjid case: Islamabad IGP
Sikandar Hayat says Musharraf was bailed from case but not exonerated.
ISLAMABAD (Online) - Inspector General of Islamabad Police, Sikandar Hayat also declared former President Pervez Musharraf innocent in Lal Masjid case.
Though, denying thoughts regarding disposing of Ghazi Abdul Rasheed murder case against Musharraf, he added that Musharraf was bailed from case but not exonerated.
He was talking to media in Center Police Office (CPO) here on Thursday.
Sikandar mentioned that Joint Investigation Team (JIT) investigated the case without any pressure and find no any proof that can declare Musharraf guilty.
IGP Islamabad said that Ghazi Abdul Rasheed case is under investigation and petitioner have an open permission to present evidence and proofs, adding nominated accused and government functionaries of Musharraf era would also be investigated in Lal Masjid case, he added.
He mentioned that Islamabad police not only registered Ghazi Abdul Rasheed and his mother’s murder case who were assassinated in Lal Masjid Operation but also started investigations by forming a five member investigation team under supervision of DIG Headquarters.
“Police not only arrested accused but recorded his and petitioners’ statements also,” he added.
Sikandar Hayat maintained that petitioner Haroon-ur-Rasheed handed over a list of 19 witnesses to JIT but only three of them came personally to record their statement before JIT.
“Two witnesses sent their statements to JIT in written along with their signatures while other 14 neither presented to record statements nor they sent any letter in this regard”.
IGP disclosed that there was no any eye-witness of operation in the list given by petitioner of the case.
He added that petitioner also gave two CDs but also these evidences could not prove indictment of Musharraf.
Police chief stated that case against Musharraf has not been completely disposed off, he was released on bail and investigation is underway.
Talking about Pervez Musharraf’s security, IG Islamabad mentioned that security personnel can be increased or decreased according to needs, adding he assured to write a letter to Musharraf’s security officer regarding security arrangements.
To a question, he said that federal police have made foolproof security arrangements and it would record videos of 909 ‘Majalis’ (Gatherings) and 177 processions.
“SSP operations, Dr Rizwan has been appointed focal person for media, while DSP and SHO would personally monitor security arrangements on the occasion of Majalis and processions”, he mentioned.
