Pakistan releases 337 Indian fishermen as a goodwill gesture

All the Indian prisoners have completed their jail term.

KARACHI (Web Desk) - Three hundred and thirty-seven (337) Indian fishermen have been released from Malir District Jail Karachi.

According to Superintendent Malir District Jail Shuja Haider‚ these fishermen had been arrested on the charges of violating Pakistani maritime limits.

The Interior Ministry announced the release of three hundred and sixty-five Indian prisoners. They include three hundred and forty fishermen and twenty-five crew of the vessel.

All the Indian prisoners have completed their jail term and would be sent to India through Wagha border tomorrow (Saturday). 

 

Pakistan and India frequently arrest each other s fishermen on charges of violating their respective zones in the Arabian Sea.

The move comes at a time of heightened tensions along the LoC due to continuous ceasefire violations.

Both sides claim that the violations are being by the other side.

India and Pakistan have fought three wars since independence in 1947, two of them over Kashmir, which is divided by a heavily militarised Line of Control but which both countries claim in full.
