Rana Iqbal elected Punjab Assembly Speaker
Rana Muhammad Iqbal was nominated by the PML-N.
LAHORE (Dunya News) - Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Rana Muhammad Iqbal was elected as Speaker of the Punjab Assembly on Monday.
Rana Iqbal secured 297 votes whereas his contender Raja Rashid Hafeez of PTI bagged 35 votes.
The newly-elected speaker took oath under the supervision of the outgoing Deputy Speaker Rana Mashhood.
After taking oath, he thanked all the assembly members, with the prayer that may Allah give him courage and wisdom to shoulder his responsibilities regarding law making in the provincial assembly.
He contended hardworking, goodwill, honesty and unity are essential in order to face the challenges.
It is second time that Rana Muhammad Iqbal will perform his duty as Punjab Assembly Speaker for the next five years.
Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) nominated former speaker of Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal again for the same slot on Sunday. The party also named Sher Ali Gorchani from Rajanpur district for the deputy speaker’s slot.
Earlier, the PPP withdrew its nominations for the two slots in the Punjab Assembly.
