SC directs AGPR to halt funds allocated to ex-PM Ashraf

A three-member bench of the apex court heard the case on Friday.

 

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan has directed the Accountant General Pakistan Revenues (AGPR) to halt disbursement of funds allocated to former premier Raja Pervez Ashraf.

 

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed hearing on suo moto notice against issuance of development funds by Raja Pervez Ashraf for his constituency.

 

During case proceeding, Additional Financial Secretary and and Cabinet Secretary Nargis Sethi submitted complete record over development funds.

 

Cabinet Secretary told court that development funds worth Rs 47 billion were issued since month of June up till now and Rs 4 billion funds are still pending.

 

Chief Justice inquired about the transparency while issuance of the funds.

 

On this, Nagis Sethi remarked that government has no such system to monitor distribution of the funds.

 

The apex court further expressed that procedure of issuance of funds should be transparent.

 

Later, the court issued notices to Prime Minister’s special secretary and Attorney General for not scrutinizing the allocation of funds.

 

The case hearing was adjourned for ten days.
