Arguments continued pertaining to the constitutional immunity enjoyed by the president.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday observed that even President was not answerable to anyone but he was still bound to respect and follow judicial orders, Dunya News reported.

The court heard the contempt of court petition against President Asif Ali Zardari for not relinquishing political office in the light of a judgment passed by the LHC last year.

During case proceeding, arguments continued pertaining to the constitutional immunity enjoyed by the president.

During course of arguments, petitoner’s lawyer AK Dogar questioned the concept of presidential immunity and asked what may have happened if the president was to murder someone.

Dogar further argued that crimes are carried out under personal capacity and that they did not have anything to do with the position a person holds.

In response, the bench stated that violation of the Constitution would adversely affect all sections of national life.

Later, the court adjourned the case hearing till Monday.
