Pak wont need aid if expatriates send money legally: Malik

Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik believes if Pakistani expatriates stop sending remittances through Hundi (also known as Hawala), Pakistan would not need any Kerry-Lugar Bill. He said this while talking to media outside the National Assembly. People say we will not beg, I say, what is IMF? What is Asian Bank? We are burdened heavily under their debt, Malik said. The interior minister said their government was only working to improve the already deteriorated situation and strengthen the economy. People who are working abroad sent more than 8 billion dollars of remittances on my first appeal. If they stop transferring money through Hundi for one or two months, we can achieve a target of 8 to 10 billion dollars, he added. Malik believed Pakistani expatriates had potential to send 30 billion dollars of remittances. Hundi or Hawala is an illegal way of transferring money to other parts of the world.
