Pakistani stars speak out against ban on TikTok

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistani showbiz celebrities have raised their voice against banning viral video-sharing social-networking service TikTok and neglecting other important issues of the society.

Actor Muneeb said that he feels sorry for the TikTok stars after the government banned the application.

Model and actress Nadia Hussain expressed anger and said, “Forget the rapist and murderer of Zainab in Charsadda, forget the long lost motorway rapist, forget Marwa, forget everything! BAN- The drama, the ad, TikTok and more! Because ofcourse that is the ONLY cause of evil in our society!”

Actor Yasir Hussain has also spoken out against the decision and said that the concerned departments should monitor the  content instead of banning the whole application.

On October 9, 2020, the government had decided to block social media App TikTok for failing to filter out “immoral” content, the country’s telecommunication authority said on Friday.

A senior official of the government involved in the decision told, “We have been asking them repeatedly to put in place an effective mechanism for blocking immoral and indecent content”.

“The platform, however, hasn’t been able to fully satisfy Pakistani authorities. The decision has been taken to block TikTok for accessing in Pakistan,” he said.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued a formal press release, saying that in view of number of complaints from different segments of the society against immoral/indecent, the application was instructed to be blocked.
