Usher donates fee after Gaddafi concert link

The pop superstar, Usher said on Friday that he was disturbed after he learned that his appearance at a concert in St. Bart's was linked to Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafis family and he plans donate his concert fee to human rights organizations.

Earlier this week, Mariah Carey, Beyonce and Nelly Furtado all renounced their performances at private concerts later revealed to be linked to the family of Gaddafi.Usher said that he was disturbed after he found out that his appearance at Nikki Beach St. Bart’s concert on the New Year’s Eve of 2009, was linked with controversial Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi. Usher did not perform but was paid to appear at the private concert featuring Beyonce.Usher on Friday gave his earnings from the concert to Amnesty International, which the organization confirmed. He requested the organization not to disclose the amount donated. Since the uprising in Libya, attention has focused on entertainers paid by the Gaddafi family for private concerts. Furtado acknowledged getting $1 million which she promised to give to charity.Beyonce said she donated her fees for to Haiti earthquake relief once she discovered the Gaddafi link. Carey said she will donate royalties for the song Save the Day, which she has written for her upcoming album, to charities that create awareness for human-rights issues.
