(Web Desk) – You know Reshma was a legendary voice but here are some facts about her life that you might have slipped your mind:

Lal Shahbaz Qalandar’s place in her life:

Reshma, born to a Banjara tribe of Indian Rajasthan in 1947, was discovered by a local producer for Radio Pakistan as she stood outside the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar singing one day. That was it.

Reshma was a sensation after her first hit, ‘Laal Meri’



Reshma was a vegetarian:

She was a vegetarian by choice and did not eat meat. Her favorite foods were Saag (cooked mustard greens), Makai Roti  (corn bread), and Missi roti - the foods of the Rajasthani, Punjabi and Sindhi people.



Former President Musharraf’s aid to Reshma:

Reshma was diagnosed with throat cancer in the 1980s. In later years, her health deteriorated, leading the then president Pervez Musharraf to come to her aid, giving her one million Rupees to help pay off a bank loan, as well as putting her on a secured assistance of 10,000 rupees per month. He also helped her secure a plot of land for herself, but that did not go through due to the change in government.



Reshma was illiterate:

Reshma did not receive any formal education and spent much of her childhood singing at the shrines of Sindh’s mystics.



Resham was awarded the third highest civilian Pakistani award:

Reshma was awarded ‘Hilal-e-Imtiaz’ (star of distinction) that is the third highest honor and civilian award of Pakistan.



Reshma, famed Pakistani icon, had passed away on November 3, 2013. She is being cherished nationwide on her 4th death anniversary, 4 years after her death, Pakistan still mourns her loss.
