Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy wins duPont-Columbia Award for 'A Girl in the River'

CALIFORNIA (Dunya News) – Renowned filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has won the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award for her documentary A Girl In The River: The Price of Forgiveness.

The documentary based on honour killing has previously won an Oscar.

The story revolves around an 18-year-old girl who escapes an honour killing attempt.

The duPont-Columbia award is considered the Pulitzer of broadcasting.

Sharmeen previously won the award for her earlier documentary, Children of the Taliban in 2010.

The winners will be awarded at Low Memorial Library on January 25, 2017 at the awards’ 75th anniversary celebration.
