Lawyer: Melissa Rivers files lawsuit in Joan's death
Rivers' lawyer has sued the clinic where her mother, Joan Rivers, had an endoscopy and later dies
NEW YORK: (AP) - Melissa Rivers lawyer has sued the clinic where her mother, Joan Rivers, had an endoscopy and later died.
The attorney says Rivers also is suing doctors who treated her mother before her death. Rivers said in a statement that she filed suit so that no other family had to go through what she did.
Yorkville Endoscopy did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Associated Press.
Joan Rivers died Sept. 4 at age 81. The city s medical examiner found she died of brain damage due to lack of oxygen after she stopped breathing during an endoscopy days earlier.
The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services cited the clinic for failing to identify deteriorating vital signs and provide timely intervention. The clinic could lose its Medicare accreditation.
