A former Guam police officer was sentenced to eight years in prison for growing marijuana

HAGATNA, Guam: (AP) - A former Guam police officer was sentenced to eight years in prison for growing marijuana while he was employed by the police department.

Pacific Daily News (http://is.gd/SFYDlF) reports Roy Pablo was convicted in October on drug charges. He was arrested in November 2013 as part of an investigation into a Dededo growth operation.

At the Thursday sentencing hearing, Pablo s companion, Ah-Rum Rose Kim, received a two-year sentence. Kim, who was accused of selling marijuana and other drugs, earlier pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver.

During the hearing, Pablo said he was afraid he wouldn t be able to support his family in prison.

Judge Alberto Lamorena said Pablo s disregard for the law he was supposed to enforce made his crimes all the more deplorable.
