Ex-spy chief appeals handing his case to Libya

Al-Senoussi is charged at the ICC with crimes against humanity.

THE HAGUE (AP) - Libya s former intelligence chief has appealed the International Criminal Court s decision to let him be tried in his home country and asked judges to order Libya not to start the trial until the appeal is settled.

Abdullah al-Senoussi s lawyer says in the appeal filed Thursday that not delaying his trial in Libya could mean that al-Senoussi is convicted and executed before appeals judges can make a ruling.

Judges at the ICC ruled last week that Libya is "willing and able" to prosecute the al-Senoussi, and therefore he cannot be tried at the ICC, which is a court of last resort.

Al-Senoussi is charged at the ICC with crimes against humanity for his alleged involvement in the deadly crackdown on opponents of slain dictator Moammar Gadhafi in 2011.
