Dunya News

Australian cricketer Brett Lee holds music lessons for underprivileged children in western India.

Australian cricketer, Brett lee joined music lessons as part of an initiative to uplift and ignite a passion for music in underprivileged children in slum areas of western Indias Maharashtra state. The children from the Dharavi slum of Mumbai, sang songs and performed for the 34-year-old music lover.Lee is currently launching a campaign with the help of international music channel, Vh1 and his foundation Mewsic to spread music across boundaries. Australian band, Muso-Magic has composed and choreographed the campaign song.Lee said he enjoyed the chance to work with the children and share his interest in music. The chance obviously to work with the kids here today and to have some fun and to share their love and interest for music that I actually have and try and pass that on to them. There are great times one can have with music I think, he said.Lee is a lead guitarist in a rock band called Six & Out in Australia, formed by his brother. He has also collaborated with Indian vocalist, Asha Bhosle to record a song that went on to become a hit in the country.Lee said he wanted to get the children away from the slums and ignite a passion in music in them. You know a part of me and I was saying this previously has always loved music. Over the past decade Ive really become involved in music and I know how much joy and satisfaction I can get out of music. At times when you are feeling unhappy or you are feeling really happy, music can play a role in both parts in playing happy and not happy. To get children out of the dumping grounds and get the boys and girls away from slums. It is easy to go and give them water or give them clothing or some food but it doesnt help them in the longer period, so this is about igniting their mind and their life about music, added Lee.Lee said 100 kids from Dharavi have enrolled with Mewsic for the next 12 months to learn music and benefit from the campaign.
